⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Failing to follow these rules may result in disqualification or suspension from current and future challenges.

TECHNICAL RULES

Current engine and version

Unreal Engine 5.5.4

GAME Industry-Standard Workflows Only

This means that, currently, we don't allow the use of UDIM's or Third Party Assets. We want to see how you create an environment by putting your own creative energy into the project.

Exceptions to this rule are:

  • VFX and Particle Effects
  • HDRIs
  • Brushes
  • Base Textures/Materials* (you need to meaningfully transform them)
  • Generators are allowed (You need to meaningfully transform them)
  • Any asset included in the Starter Content we provide

pre-made assets

No external/third party assets are allowed, apart from the ones mentioned in the previous section. This challenge is to test your skills in art creation. That also means that all assets in an environment must be made by your team during the time-frame of the challenge.

can we use nanite?

You are allowed to use nanite, but this would be a team descision.

plugins

Plugins for individual creation are allowed. However, Unreal Engine plugins are a bit more complicated.

For Unreal Engine, paid plugins are not allowed. Free plugins can be used with the knowledge and permission of the entire team and the mentor. Using plugins is done at your team's discretion and risk.

generative ai

The use of AI is not allowed for any aspect of the challenge. Simple overpaints and photobashes have proven to be excellent tools for idea generation in Team Challenges!

team rules

follow community rules

In addition to all Discord rules, Beyond Extent's Discord #Server_Rules also apply.

communication is most important

Team Challenges are all about putting your communication skills to the test! It’s all about the team, leave your ego at the door.

It's best to communicate early and often, especially when it comes to issues or concerns. Your Team Mentor and the Beyond Extent Organisation Team are here to support if needed.

Here's some additional expectations from you as a team:

  • Keep each other in the loop about your availability. If you miss more than one meeting without updating your team, you may lose your spot and be replaced!
  • Agree on a meeting schedule during pre-production. Record and share meetings for those who can’t attend.
  • It's recommended to sync at least twice a week in your team's voice chat, once with your mentor and once without your mentor.
  • Keep in mind the different timezones between people in the team.

Respect Skill Levels

Teams are balanced, but skill levels will vary. Support and uplift your teammates, this is a key component of what makes a successful team!

value the individual contributions

Each team member should have creative ownership of their own contributions, but it is encouraged to reach out for help from others when necessary.

Giving and receiving constructive feedback is part of the creative process. This Team Challenge is the perfect time to practice and refine that skill in a positive and supportive manner.

support is available

Reach out to your Team Mentor or the Beyond Extent team whenever needed. We’re here to support you along the way! For more information on the production process, refer to the MILESTONES documentation.

usage rights

By participating, Beyond Extent is granted the right to use, modify, and distribute content created within the Team Challenge, including for future events and promotions. Beyond Extent may also store all Team Challenge Unreal Engine projects for potential future use.

However, this does not imply exclusive ownership by Beyond Extent. The team retains ownership of the assets they created during the challenge.
